Growing in Unity 2025 – Day 3

WOW . . . it’s already the middle of the week! Today, let’s go forward to an old couple in love for a lifetime. For today’s card, I used Unity’s “They Built a Life” stamp set. I imagine this couple sitting on a park bench just enjoying a lovely spring day together. I stamped them up using VersaFine Claire pigment ink in “Morning Mist” and then cut them down to a 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 square panel using the largest stitched square (without scallops) in Unity’s Scallops & Squares nesting die set.

For my park scene, I needed to make a mask so that I could easily do the sky and ground. I stamped the image on Gina K Masking Magic and then fussy cut the image out to create the mask.

I used Unity’s Cloud and Waves stencil to create the sky and a hills stencil from one of the monthly Whit Kits to start the grass and then just blended the green for the grass from that point to the bottom. I used Distress Ink in Tumbled Glass for the sky and Mowed Lawn for the grass.

I colored the panel using Prismacolor Pencils. For the skin I used Kit and Clowder’s color combination of Sienna Brown, Burnt Orche, Clay Rose, Light Peach, Eggshell, and White. His hair is a combination of 10% Cool Grey and White. Her hair is a combination of Greyed Lavender, 30% Cool Grey, 10% Cool Grey and White.

I colored our handsome gentleman’s pants with a combination of 30% Warm Grey and 20% Warm Grey. His sweater is Light Cerulean Blue with Copenhagen Blue accents. Our lovely lady is wearing a Process Red top paired with a 70% Cool Grey skirt, accented with a Bronze necklace and shoes.

The park bench is a combination of Dark Umber, Light Umber, and Sienna Brown. I also used Grass Green to fill in the background grass through the bench slates and Sky Blue Light to do the same for the sky area.

I made another book binding card for this square panel. A quick reminder on how to make a book binding card . . . start with a 4 1/4 x 11 inch card base. Score the base at 5 1/2 inches (as you would for a top folding A2 card) and 4 1/4 inches and then fold the card at those two score marks so that you end up with a Z.

Once you have the folds, glue the area between the two score marks and stick the card together. I cut a 4 x 4 square panel from a piece of 6 x 6 paper from the Mintay “Always and Forever” paper collection for a mat of the square image panel, and a matching 1 x 4 piece for the book binding side. I stamped one of the sentiments from Unity’s “They Built a Life” stamp set and glued it down on the book binding mat.

Finally I glued the park scene panel to the front of the card. This will make a perfect anniversary card to have in my stash for the perfect occasion.

Be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win one of two gifts from Unity that I have to give away this week. Each gift is $20 in store credit on the Unity Stamp Company website. I will be drawing two names using a random picker at the end of the week from those who comment.

  1. Beautiful couple and it is wonderful the way you colored it. A wonderful anniversary card I would think!

  2. I have thought about buying this stamp so many times because I have a photo of my parents (deceased) sitting on a park bench. It was fun to see your card!
