Growing in Unity – Day 5 – Gift Set of Cards

For my final day, I decided I needed to use stamps that I’ve never used before. And, I have a TON of those. I will admit that I am a true Unity Addict and buy the best red rubber stamps available much faster than I can use them. So I have the entire set of the floral border stamps by Holly Hoffman and started thinking those would make a perfect gift set of simple, one-layer cards. So that’s what I have for you today. The sets are Border of Magnolias, Border of Orchids, Border of Poppies, Border of Black Eye Susans, Border of Gardenias, and Border of Holly.

I started this gift set of cards with Kraft card bases and stamped one border on each with white pigment ink. I then used fine detail white embossing powder to heat emboss the images.

I intended to add just a hint of color to each with Prisma Color Pencils, but I ended up quickly coloring in each image completely. I did it quickly without worrying about shading, etc. I love how bright Prisma Color Pencils look on Kraft paper. I’ll list the colors used under each card. After doing the quick coloring, I stamped sentiments in Versafine Claire Pinecone ink. All of the sentiments are from Unity’s Special Wishes December 2016 Sentiment Kit, except for the Happy Holidays. The Happy Holidays is from Unity’s Magic of Christmas November 2014 Sentiment Kit.

Prisma Color Pencils in Canary Yellow and a touch of Spanish Orange at the center of the flowers.
What color would you use for poppies other than Poppy Red?
I used Lavender as the base color with a little Mulberry flicked at the center and through the petals.
I used White for the gardenia flowers and Grass Green for the leaves.
I started with flicking a little Mulberry at the center of the petals and then went back in with White, starting at the centers over the Mulberry and flicking up and out to fill in the petals. I’ll admit it . . . this is my favorite of all of these cards.
I used Grass Green for the leaves and Crimson Red for the berries.

Once I had the cards made for this gift set, I got to thinking what would finish this set off nicely . . . a gift box, of course.

I used a template for the box that my sister made for me after watching a Gina K Designs video. Gina K created a template that can be downloaded from her Facebook group files section. So now on to the box itself. . . .

I used the same Kraft cardstock for the base of my box. I scored and trimmed the cardstock according to the template and chose two pieces of patterned paper to decorate the outside of the box. I cut the layers to be about 1/8″ smaller than the layer before.

And then started gluing the layers down onto the box itself.

Next I folded and reinforced each of the score lines and added double-sided tape along the bottom and side flaps.

And then folded the box together, grabbed 6 envelopes, and slipped the cards and envelopes into the box.

I had so much fun this week sharing these projects!

Don’t forget to leave a comment on each day to be entered into the drawing to win one of two $20 in store credit on the Unity Stamp Company website.
