Aloha
Today is taking me back to an impromptu little vacation on Maui right after the devastating fires in August. A couple of my girlfriends were going but I couldn’t due to work obligations. Well, just a few days before they were leaving my work obligations cleared up, the stars aligned, and I booked my flights!
We had a wonderful little vacation and really enjoyed the island. Everyone was so friendly and grateful for people visiting the island to keep the economy going. It was really a beautiful trip with wonderful friends.
Now on to the card . . .
I used Unity Stamp Company’s “Mele Kalikimaka” set. I stamped the image on white cardstock with Gina K Designs Black Amalgam Ink. I also stamped the sentiment in Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink.
I also used Unity’s “The Christmas Tree” background stamp. I stamped it in three different colors (Versafine Clair Nocturne, Glamorous, and Green Oasis) so that I’d have options for the background. I then trimmed each of the backgrounds down with the largest die in Unity’s Postage Stamp Nesting Dies.
Next, I googled images of Hawaiian hibiscus flowers so that I could get my focal image colored correctly. I used Spectrum Noir alcohol inks to color up the image. The leaves are a combination of AG1, AG2, AG3, and AG4. The blossom is BP6 in the deep center, then brushed out with BP3 and BP1. Next I came in from the outside of the petals in CT1, brushing down into the pinks. The stamin was colored with CT4, which is a deeper yellow with the pinks brushing up from the center. After coloring the focal image, I fussy cut it out.
I saw another opportunity to ink an un-inked stamp. I found the inside sentiment from Unity’s “More Sparkle Less Stress” set and stamped it in Versafine Clair Nocturne.
I restamped the Mele Kalikimaka sentiment in Versafine Clair in Charming Pink to help it not be lost in the background. I finally assembled the card. Aloha!
I hope this week inspires you to get started on your own holiday cards. Be sure to leave a comment each day for a chance to win one of two prizes from Unity that I have to give away this week.
