Simply Swap It – October 2023

We are still working with sketches for this swap round. October’s sketch comes to us from Sunday Sketches via Pinterest from www.stampstodiefor.com.

When I saw this sketch, I knew immediately that I would do a vintage style Christmas card. I chose a kraft card base as my starting point and then went to my paper closet to find Christmas paper for my various elements.

I’m a sucker for Michael’s “hot buys” paper stacks, especially the Christmas stacks, so I have plenty from which to choose. I fanned through most of them a time or two and finally settled on this pack as it seemed to have the best “vintage” options.

I selected the holly paper and then used some scraps of red plaid and snowflake papers for my 4×4 layer and the 1/2×4 1/4 strip.

The white on these papers was a little too white for my vintage style, so out comes the Vintage Photo Distress Ink to “vintage” the paper up a bit.

The 2 1/2 x 3 1/4 layer was perfect for the sentiment. I chose a large sentiment from Unity Stamp Company’s November 2014 Sentiment Kit “Magic of Christmas” and stamped it in VersaFine Clair Rain Forest Ink on kraft cardstock. I also distressed around the edges with Vintage Photo.

Things sat on my desk in this state of just elements for quite a while. I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do for the the banner elements. Finally, I decided on plain red and green cardstock banners, which I cut by hand.

Now that I had all of the individual elements I could get to assembling. I glued my bottom layers (the holly paper and red strips) to the kraft card base. Then I glued my banner pieces to my sentiment layer. And finally, glued my sentiment layer to the base. I knew I would be mailing these so I didn’t use foam tape, but I think the sentiment layer with the banners on foam tape would be a great option as well.

Hope you enjoyed the card and had a Merry Christmas and Holiday Season in 2023.
