Our Craft Roulette episode for August is Episode No. 100. The parameters are: (1) Project – Double Tag; (2) Colors – Chocolate +3; (3) Element – Affection; and (4) Random – Vellum or Tissue Paper.
Here we are again . . . choosing what to do with these parameters. I knew the tag part would be super simple with my Unity Stamp Company Make a Tag Die Set. I’ve always loved chocolate brown and shades of pink together, so another easy one. Chocolate, pinks, and affection just screamed a Valentine card of some kind. The random parameter is often where things can get difficult. Fortunately, vellum or tissue paper isn’t difficult, but I don’t often think to use them on my cards. I decided I’d give vellum a whirl for this one. So, there’s my thought process . . . now let’s jump into actually making the card.
I started by picking a chocolate brown card base. I used the brown from Recollections “Coffee and Cream” 110 lb cardstock pack that I get at Michaels. I really love these 110 lb cardstock packs from Michael because I can get several colors for the price and the weight is great for card bases. I usually stock up when they are on sale. I pulled three coordinating shades of pick from my “pink” paper drawer. These pinks all came from the same paper pack. Unfortunately, I do not have the packaging so I’m not sure what it was. I do know that I found it at Hobby Lobby.
I used the largest scallop stitched tag from my Unity Stamp Company Make a Tag Die Set and cut the card base into a tag-shaped card. I made sure that the top part of the die hung over the fold of the card base so that I still had a folded card. I used the two smallest tags to cut my two darker shades of pink into tags to layer on the front of the card. I decided I might as well get all my die cutting done at once, so I grabbed my Tim Holtz Stacked Tiles Hearts dies to cut a small heart out of my lightest pink. I also grabbed my Unity Stamp Company Scalloped & Stitched Sentiment Nesting Die Set to cut my sentiment strip out of vellum.
I knew my pink tags were too plain to just layer up on the chocolate card base, so I dug through my Unity Stamp Company background stamps and found all my “love” backgrounds. Then came the hard part . . . narrowing it down to just two. I settled on two backgrounds stamps where Unity partnered with Brutus Monroe: Hearts All Over and Lots of Love. I stamped each of these in VersaFine Clair Pinecone ink.
I dug through my stamp sets and found the perfect simple “I Love You” sentiment in Unity Stamp Company’s One Crazy Bird set. I stamped that in Ranger’s Ground Espresso Distress Archival Ink. I used archival ink to stamp the sentiment because vellum is a non-porous paper and I needed something that would be permanent on non-porous paper once dry. I also let the sentiments dry overnight just to be safe before I added them to the cards.
At this stage of the process, I realized I needed to cut something for inside the card since the chocolate base would be too dark to write on. Back to Unity’s tag set. I used the second largest tag to cut to perfect layer for inside the card base out of basic white layering weight cardstock.
Now back to finishing up the card . . . . I layered the two pink tags on the front and simply glued them down.
Once the sentiments were dry, I used old Creative Memories “frosted splits” to adhere the vellum sentiments to the front and popped up the little heart with some foam tape for a little dimension.
I think this round was the easiest roulette card for me. I didn’t spend most of the month wracking my brain agonizing over what I was going to do with the parameters the wheel gave me. Hope you enjoyed seeing how this one came to life.
